For those of you who have gone to the extent of removing your soft top and are looking for more weight savings:

Have you considered chopping the windshield? I am considering doing this, but frankly would prefer to see the results on someone else's car first... hehe. My idea is to chop the side supports for the windshield, then trim the actual glass windshield, refinish all cut edges to make them look nice again, and remove the little triangle window section from each door. The car would look a lot more like this: http://www.britishv8.org/Other/RodEvans/RodEvans-B.JPG

I'm estimating we would lose 3 pounds from each corner window, 10 from the beam across the top of the windshield, a few more pounds of glass if you cut off the four top inches with the blue tint, a pound for the rear view mirror, and a bit more for the trimmed windshield side-pillars. Total savings should be between 20 and 30 pounds, depending on just how much these items weigh. I personally would reinstall the rear view mirror on the dash, so let's call it 20 pounds and a whole different look for the Miata!

What do you guys think?

I have seen a few pics of Miatas with small/no windshields. I always though it looked great since it was unique. I haven't taken the plunge myself. I had a good chance a while back when I got the weindshield replaced but I didn't jump on it.

FWIW, in case you haven't seen it, I have removed the side triangles and supports from my car. There is a large difference in the amount of noise and wind that blows on you without the triangles.

I think you need to look at pictures of the 1995 Miata Speedster show car.

I will do this to my car one day. It is currently my only car, so I need to keep the roof on it for now.
