Hi, i am starting to build a lightweight mx5 for curcuit sprints by stripping the weight and taking off all the panels and making them out of carbon fibre.

I have removed: power steering, a/c, all the interior except the top part of dash and the driver seat has been replaced with a 6 kg velo race seat. I cut the seatbelt towers out and the complete parcel shelf is gone. It has a half cage with diagonal and side intrusion bars welded in.

c.f hardtop being assembled on my spare mx5
c.f lights, i had to take the pop up lights off as i neeed the room for the aircleaner and intercooler pipes.
They are 180 sx halo twin lights from ebay, modified to fit. As a bonus they are about 1/4 of the weight.

I have just started on the doors. I am pretty much doing the same as the fibreglass guy in sweden except mine is all vacuum infused c.f. instead of hand laminated fibreglass. much lighter for the same strength.

Nice- those CF doors would be sweet. you should keep a tally of what each stock part weighed and its CF counter part.
